Ford makes off-roading easier with new 'Breadcrumbs' feature

Since all the way back in 1959, when Ford produced the first Ford F-250 4x4 pickup, Ford has been an off-road legend, producing iconic 4x4 vehicles like the first generation Bronco and the incredible Ford F-150 Raptor. Off-roading is a heck of a lot of fun, and Ford 4x4s have been helping Americans get out there to find their next great adventure for decades now with an incredible combination of rugged engineering and next-generation technology. But what if you need to find your way home after a long day of navigating unmarked trails?

If you're like a lot of folks, you've long since ditched paper maps and that keychain compass in favor of smartphone navigation or turn-by-turn navigation through the in-dash touchscreen available in many late-model vehicles. The problem is: once you leave the pavement, all that high-tech navigation ability stops, leaving you to the mercy of your own memory and whatever landmarks you can recall from the way there.

Ford is always at the cutting edge of making the technology of the future today, and now they've come up with a solution to finding your way back to civilization when you head off-road or down some of the dim, unmarked backroads we have here in Cleburne County, with Ford's new Breadcrumbs navigation feature. When enabled, the system makes getting back home again as easy as retracing your steps with a high-tech assist.

When enabled in Ford's in-dash SYNC 3 touchscreen's navigation settings, the Breadcrumbs feature drops a virtual "pin" once every second while you're driving off-road or on an unmarked road.  When you're ready to head home again, just push a button on the screen and the Breadcrumbs trail reverses, giving you a step-by-step guide to take you back to your starting point, without the hassle and stress of trying to remember where you turned.

Powered by satellite technology similar to systems used by the U.S. Military, the Breadcrumbs feature recently debuted in all Ford trucks equipped with the SYNC 3 system with navigation, including higher trim levels of the Ford F-150 and Ford Ranger XLT, Lariat and FX4 models.

Breadcrumbs gives a futuristic boost to the capability of the already-capable Ford Ranger with the FX4 off-road package, which includes an electronic locking rear differential and Ford's next-generation Terrain Management System with Trail Control, which allows you to optimize your Ranger's engine and drivetrain systems for a variety of off-road situations. For even more Ford Tough capability, Ford Performance now offers a full line of off-road accessories for Ranger, including a winch-ready steel front bumper and leveling kits.

Ford is all about building the vehicles of the future today, and that includes the future of off-roading. It's another reason why we're proud to sell quality Ford 4x4 trucks like F-150 FX4, Ranger FX4 and Super Duty 4x4 at Heartland Ford of Heber Springs. Stop in today for a test drive and a demonstration of the incredible Breadcrumbs system, or check out our full selection at our website right now.
