Ford announced as the official vehicle of ULTRA4 and The King of the Hammers Off-Road Racing | Heartland Ford of Heber Springs

Ford has been an off-road legend since the company produced the first 4x4 F-250 Ford truck all the way back in 1959. Now Ford is cementing a future that includes rugged off-road innovation, with the announcement that Ford is now the official vehicle of the King of the Hammers and ULTRA4 extreme off-road racing series.

Held every year in February in California's rugged Johnson Valley, the grueling King of the Hammers event -- the signature event of the ULTRA4 racing organization -- tests drivers and machines to the limit with a course that includes short-course events, high-speed desert racing and low-speed rock-crawling. The event attracts more than 450 teams from around the world, with vehicles competing in modified stock and extreme off-road classes, along with 75,000 spectators and more than 1 million online viewers.

“Working with ULTRA4 Racing and King of the Hammers is a natural for Ford based on our truck, SUV and off-road heritage,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “Our participation in King of the Hammers builds on our rich history of off-roading by continuing to deliver on Built Ford Tough in the most demanding conditions.” Ford is currently torture-testing the all-new 2021 Ford Bronco in Johnson Valley.

According to Ford, sales of their most rugged trucks and SUVS -- including the F-150 Raptor, Super Duty Tremor and others -- have been growing at about twice the rate of the overall sales. Rugged SUVs are estimated to account for about one-quarter of the overall SUV segment today, up from about 12 percent just 10 years ago.

“Our racers and spectators are as authentic and passionate as they come,” said Dave Cole, president, Hammerking Productions/ULTRA4 Racing. “Our dedicated staff, loyal fans and fearless racers have helped build this motorsport and lifestyle platform for more than a decade, and we couldn’t be more excited to get the 2020 racing season started with Ford as our official vehicle partner.”

Ford's partnership with ULTRA4 and King of the Hammers is the latest in a long line of collaborations between Ford and the world's premier off-road events. Ford currently serves as the official truck and SUV of SCORE-International Off-Road Racing, which hosts the legendary Baja 1000, Baja 500 and San Felipe 250 championships in Mexico. Ford also serves as the official vehicle of the Best in the Desert race series.
