The truck of the future has arrived: the Ford F-150 Lightning. Just last week, Ford announced its new all-electric F-150. The F-150 Lightning goes where no Ford truck has gone before. Of course, the electric vehicle swaps out gas pumps for charging stations. Yet, perhaps more impressively, it does so while increasing power and capability to a level never-before-seen on a Ford truck. The Ford F-150 Lightning will offer more horsepower and torque than any F-150 in history. Additionally, Ford will stock the truck with technology which will allow it to be fully self-driving on the highway and capable of downloading mechanical updates through the internet.

Let’s explore in depth each aspect of the new Ford F-150 Lightning so we can fully appreciate all that the truck of the future has to offer.

The Most Advanced Electric Technology

What is the most important part of an electric truck? It’s ability to travel long distances without recharging! Currently, the Ford F-150 Lightning is estimated to travel 230 miles on a standard battery and 300 miles on an extended battery. However, the battery of the electric F-150 is not just designed to power the truck on long road trips. It is also capable of giving off power. Plug in all your tailgate equipment to power your pre-game entertainment. More impressively, the F-150 Lightning is capable of serving as a generator for the average house for three days in case of a power outage. The electric capabilities of the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning are second to none.

Unmatched Power and Capability

When you think of an environmentally-friendly vehicle, you likely think of a slow, weak and boring sedan. Yet, Ford reimagines the electric vehicle with this F-150 Lightning offering. The truck’s electric power allows it to produce more horsepower and torque than any F-150 in history. The truck will produce 563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque which will allow it to go from 0 to 60 mph in just over four seconds. The F-150 Lightning will have a max payload of 2,000 pounds and a max towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. The electric F-150’s immense power makes it possible for even the hardest-working drivers to get the job done.

No Sacrificing Toughness and Durability

The F-150 has a reputation of being Built Ford Tough. Ford has no intention of squandering that reputation with the Ford F-150 Lightning. The all-electric truck will be built with a high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy body and an all-new steel frame which is stronger than any ever put in a Ford truck. The F-150 Lightning will also feature an independent rear suspension which will allow for a smooth, comfortable ride. The Ford F-150 Lightning provides a tough build on an electric truck.

Groundbreaking Technology

An all-electric vehicle will undoubtedly be built upon mind-blowing technology, but the Ford F-150 Lightning takes vehicle technology to another level. Most notably, the electric F-150 will provide a fully hands-free driving experience on the highway. The vehicle will also utilize the FordPass app to calculate the perfect route to take into account charging stations. If there are any software updates available from Ford, the truck will automatically download them through the cloud, making sure your truck has the most up-to-date technology.
