The 2021 Ford Escape and the 2021 Ford Explorer are two of the most popular SUVs in America. Many people compare the two SUVs to determine which one is right for them. We’ve selected two key differences between the 2021 Ford Escape and 2021 Ford Explorer -- size and engine capability -- to help our customers better understand each SUV and determine which one is right for them.
Size | 2021 Ford Escape vs. 2021 Ford Explorer
One of the biggest areas in which the 2021 Ford Escape and 2021 Ford Explorer differ is in their sizes. While the 2021 Escape isn’t a compact SUV, it is quite a bit smaller than the 2021 Explorer, offering more athleticism while sacrificing a bit of cargo room and passenger space. The Escape still manages to offer legroom for five passengers and a good deal of cargo space in its trunk. The 2021 Explorer, on the other hand, utilizes its larger size to seat eight passengers and provide plenty of room for cargo.
Engine | 2021 Ford Escape vs. 2021 Ford Explorer
A second area in which the 2021 Ford Escape and 2021 Ford Explorer differ is in their engines and the amount of power which they produce. The 2021 Escape’s engine options offer less power but more fuel efficiency than those of the Explorer. The two options for the 2021 Escape are a 1.5L engine which produces 191 horsepower and a 2.0L engine which produces 250 horsepower. However, these engine options allow the Escape to travel an impressive 30 miles per gallon of gas. The 2021 Explorer offers more powerful engine options. Its standard 2.3L EcoBoost engine produces 300 horsepower and allows the Explorer to tow up to 5,300 pounds. The Explorer is not by any means inefficient, however, offering a fuel efficiency of 29 miles per gallon on the highway. Both SUVs offer some sort of off-road capabilities. The Escape offers AWD, while the Explorer is a bit more adventurous with 4WD options.
